Barn Raising

By TractorMan

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

The neighbors came From miles around To help raise a barn From the ground They brought their hammers And nails of steel They brought their families To prepare a big meal We started at dawn It would take all day We used a tractor To clear the way Trusses were made To support the roof We all weren’t carpenters There were some goofs A wall went up We stopped for a break Our muscles were sore And began to ache The crew worked hard And we finally had All four walls up Not too bad The roof was done Amidst much pain We did it right To keep out the rain The siding went on And with it the paint It was great to work with All these saints The work all done It was quite a deal We all finally sat down To a hearty meal With the sun setting And folks going their way I thanked them all For their help that day Written November 8th, 2001 © on Nov 07 2001 11:17 PM PST   0 • 10
