Idle Fields
By TractorMan
The fields are quiet now Chunky sod overturned in rows Stalks of corn stripped and broken Half covered in patches of snow Tractors sitting by their barns Lonely, quiet, not a sound Patiently waiting for winter to pass With the thawing of now frozen ground The old farm sits peacefully Taking a well deserved rest Some folks round these parts Say that winter’s season is the best When all the farming chores Are at last finished and done And idle fields stand bearing witness Of a hard battle fought and won Written November 7th, 2001 © on Nov 07 2001 04:08 AM PST 0 • 10
