Springtime is right around the corner Out here on the semi-arid plains Looking forward my trees to plant While expecting late April rains Holes I’ll dig deep and wide Sometimes working into the night Making room for all my trees And space them all just right Off to the nursery I drive To purchase all my trees Maples, oaks and aspens I want the colorful leaves Joyfully taking them home And planting them with care A natural wildlife habitat My friends said I had there You know they’re right I said one Summer day A forest on the prairie Not a barren yard of dirt and clayJust trying to capture part of my life in words...
