The Outing
By TractorMan
It was the first Sunday in October That a bunch of us drove Into the Pike National forest Somewhere south of Lake George The weather was brisk With snowflakes sprinkled here and there Our suburban packed full Motoring into the back country somewhere Paved road turned to gravel And then a rut filled trail Slowly and surely we went With all that ground clearance we sailed Stopped in a group of Aspens With all the others right behind None of us worse for wear We had all made it just fine Out we jumped into a cold stiff wind Everyone getting on the coats To keep the warmth in Looking at the beauty Of the changing trees all around Kids all running to climb rocks Jutting out of the hard ground The pines smelled crisp With an aroma so clean There were even orange leafed Aspens Mixed in with the needled greens The views were stunning And the colors so bold The hillsides were painted With splashes of yellow and gold A few hours later We packed our load Headed home eastward Driving down the road It was really great To get into the hills A wonderful Fall day Full of beauty and thrillsJust trying to capture this fun time in words...
