The Roundup

By TractorMan

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Under morning skies and the rising sun The cowboys gathered for their last cattle run Bacon and eggs and pancakes for all Washin’ it all down with black coffee Swapping stories of ropin and brandin Cleaning up and the pots all washed Cowpokes preparing their horses and gear Rounding up the cattle and moving them northward Along well worn trails used in the years before The weather is dry and the dust is kickin Bringing them doggies from their winter range To feed on the grassy eastern Colorado plains Their families are waiting at the end of the trail Meals are prepared to welcome them soon The children are excited and soon want to be Heroes on horses just like their DaddyNot really a tidy, flowing poem... more of a story to tell..
