A Scary Nose Cannot Be Ignored

By Walter Burns

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

My little girl, she’s only three Last night she came and cried to me "Daddy, Daddy, outside my room A floating nose to meet my doom" "A floating nose? You’re being silly" "A floating nose, Daddy really!" "Wife of mine go see that nose" But wife of mine gently dozed I was naked and she was three The covers grasped so tight to me I’ve never been a homophobe So I grabbed a frilly robe Down the dark and chilly hall Each nightlight we would stop and stall At her door she looked to me I hoped my frown she didn’t see For all the silence we had held Her puffy cheeks, they swiftly swelled She cried to me. How? Heaven knows Crepe myrtle tree could sprout a nose "Deary, Deary, your eyes of suede Have spied a blossom Jesus made That’s not a nose of monster scary That's not a Badman big and hairy So Deary, Deary, you close your eyes Let hungry monsters sit and cry" "Daddy Daddy what’s a blossom A gift from Jesus and you got some" Written February 11th, 2002 © on Feb 11 2002 02:25 PM PST   0 • 14
