Communication Breakdown

By Walter Burns

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

They fly as if through hidden waves Beget from towers that stab the air It's said, there's is a widened path Though their power is surely there The tower snakes from charcoal earth Born of time and ancient pyre Callused hands chart out its birth So they can slash the length of wire Seek the temple to shield the hate And find the destroyers at the door No service for their distracting ways Still for later, they won't ignore From the towers, to clear their message They bounce about the callused earth They change the minds of all the weary Who want their power to match their worth From ear to ear the grin is shedding The destroyers have turned yet another mind Through the unseen, they travel lightly And leave still another tower behind I won't be a communicator of sin I will not spend my days in hiding Wherefore in trade for lost connection Jesus Christ, my Lord residing! I, in the temple of the sacred holy Deny connection to the deceiver Take forth a vow to become a temple And slam down the dead receiver I step onto the soggy ground Voices whisper, I stand not fearing In the world of the unbeliever It’s God who gave me hearing They fly as if through raging storm Beget from God who gave them sight That all may seek the mighty glory That shines as beacons in the night Turn off power of the destroyer’s hate Find a shield but do not hide Become a temple and disrupt the service To the dark and wretched side Dream of flight through sky so pure Beget from God who snuffed out sin There’ll be a time when towers fall Let us, now, prepare for then. © on Jul 02 2001 09:23 AM PST   0 • 10
