Mickey the Hand Fingers the Mouse

By Walter Burns

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

One day, while walking around Mickey Moused and down My Hands went through the motions Two interstellar potions Mickey made coffee And Mouse made the buns My Hands do the work In labor and fun I’d drink from ole Mickey But Mouse would get sticky So I questioned them both How I woke from this State “Well,” Mickey said, “Sweety It was Texas’ entreaty To join the Union Once pounded by Grant So we know what you’re thinking Those words just need tweaking You’re ‘bout to tell us something with “Can’t”” My mouth was so dry From Mickey’s reply “I just can’t do it” “I can’t! I can’t!” “Do what?” Mouse could barely go on “Well I see her each morning 30 minute performing I’m her cartoon and then she’s gone I want to jump from the TV And tell her come see me How she turns me on from her view How the Talking Hands told me On some advice they just sold me There is nothing in this world but you” But Mickey the Hand and Fingers the Mouse Couple of Hands that help me clean house Couldn’t tell me what I should do How I should tell her “I’m thinking of you” Mickey made Egos And prepared me a tongue That forever could never becalm What would I tell her Next that I saw her, The speech on Mouse’s “nay” palm? M and M, they melted with questions “So who is this girl that you’re after?” “Well she is so… yes… and quite the… sigh…” Like apples they pealed with their laughter “She’s the one, and all, a universe One verse in a cosmic song The chorus, a before us She has already met Mr. Wrong Her Rock of Gibraltar Hangs near the altar S.tone A.ntitheft D.evice” “I get it,” said Mickey, “It really ain’t tricky The Club is a ring full of ice” Mouse got real fed up Said, “Won’t you just geddup Here’s your backpack, keys and your wallet We got you all dressed And heard you confess About love or whatever you call it” “I’ll pay you,” I said And they nodded their head At least their two tallest digits I left for the day I had more I could say But they had taken to watching their Gidget I sank to the ground To think of some ways To get past her ole S.A.D. Suddenly was jerked By shoulders of shirt Two hands got hold of dear me “I know you’re dis-hearted But your engine has started Light’s green and you ain’t been knowin Just put it in drive While we’re still all alive All the cars round you been goin” “Is that your advice? Put it in drive? And tell her that I am alive?” Mickey and Mouse, visibly shaken Screamed, “Oh no! Laws would be breakin Laws of justice that don’t leave a doubt So let your wheels roll And please pay us our toll For our hands are here holding out” Was it a dream? There wasn’t a scream Just hands that can’t snap a tune They snap me awake For all that’s at stake I can blame it on them real soon Mystic’lly connecting On a slide past true fate Like flowing more softly Than Gumby’s ice skates We arrived at forever As infinity spinned Bells had been ringing Horns just blend in I woke on the road The toll way of life I had not a dollar A coin or a wife Someone was shouting “Hey buddy slow down!” The highway was rising was I way out of town? Mickey and Mouse Who I left at the house Were like Indy and Jones at the wheel Determined to save me For advice they once gave me And to get home to watch Ally McBeal “I must hand it to you You saved me again How much do I owe you My M and M friends?” “You talk in your sleep also you weep For this woman you seemingly love This pain you’ve been dealt We also have felt For a pair of lost leather hide gloves” “She’s in every blink of my eye She won’t leave when I cry” “STOP!” cried Mouse wearing a Mack “What you said in your sleep I could tell you right now But the words I could never take back” “Tell me!” I cried “I must know what occurred What has gotten you weary And suddenly spurred Such an outcry For my selfish well being Tell me it all Every bit that you’re seeing” “Well…” Mouse a little bit leery Took center stage “You told her you loved her Then the engine engaged She ran after you Your truck was steam rolling You couldn’t be woken Your speech was unfolding” “How were my words? What did she say? If she’s unhappy? Mickey will pay! Penned it on you Mouse But Mick wrote the piece should I blame the three pigs? For the brakes release” Mouse was excited He stood on tip fingers And with a scent in the air Her perfume still lingers “M and M, you’re sweet I thank you much When we all find her You both can touch” Mickey had Mindy (Don’t tell Minny) And Mouse had none The three lil piggies Ate all of their young The Rock of the S.A.D. Could not be shattered Not by a TOO LATE Love that still matters “Mickey and Mouse My M and M friends I’m so sad it worked out Right in the end” “You told her your feelings And never will hate her You have M and M’s Not sour Now and Laters!” “Goodbye Mickey Goodbye Mouse Picket fence And perfect house “Hello sadness Hello pain Perfect picture Now refrain…” Written January 31st, 2002 © on Jan 30 2002 04:05 PM PST   0 • 10
