Roller Coaster Poster Boy

By Walter Burns

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Roller coaster poster boy Frightens friend just for joy Shakes her as they climb so high Tells her that they all could die He calms her that he did inspect Every crack and huge defect Look at how the loops will sway Looks as if it’s judgment day Close your eyes and you’ll be sick But really that’s a sneaky trick For at the time your going up Is quiet time for throwing up Clackety clackety clackety clack Guess there is no turning back Look your face is turning white Dizzy at this swelling height Don’t look down, wait, what is that? Looks as if you’ve lost you’re hat I was kidding about your hat Looks like vomit will go splat Here we are the biggest drop Look! a lever to make it stop ONLY KIDDING, HERE WE GOOOOOOOO You raise your arms to heaven knows Your hair is whipping in the breeze For as we pull a couple gees Round and round and up and down Soon we both will kiss the ground I asked you how you liked the ride You couldn’t keep it all inside We jumped the line and ran on back To ride the rails of coaster track Every time we reach the top And gaze upon that awesome drop We reach, in fun, for phantom lever And face our fears as friends forever Written February 10th, 2002 © on Feb 10 2002 07:23 AM PST   0 • 14
