Better Than Silence
You have your preconceptions but I Cannot stand on the sidelines this time I’m tired of taking the easy way out No, I’m not ducking now, no matter what they say Call me crazy, but this heart’s crying for truth It’s screaming, it’s bleeding, and it just won’t sway My one weak voice is better than silence Silenced masses screaming there’s something better than this Comin’ outta the woodwork, so get outta my way Stay cowered in your corner, but I’m having my say Can’t you see they’re hiding freedom from us It’s trapped in the box of societal say Why are we smiling when we should be crying? We’re choked by the standard, it’s invading our minds Their thrones are built upon our lack of defiance Will you bow to their way or will you stand up and say: My one weak voice is better than silence Silenced masses screaming there’s something better than this Comin’ outta the woodwork, so get outta my way Stay cowered in your corner, but I’m having my sayNew song-in-progress! This came as a result of facing some major division in my church due to decisions of the leadership . . . but also comes from experience of watching people stand idly by while the moral world around them collapses. Do you stay quiet and away from contreversy, or will you be heard at the risk of coming under fire? Written April 15th, 2002 © on Apr 15 2002 02:39 PM PST 18 • 0 • 9
