Night Dive

My old friend darkness greets me As my new mother embraces me Revitalizing my body and mind With the coldness of her touch. Her immenseness envelops me As she draws me deep down into her womb. Glazing back to the surface – disappearing The moon flickers – two worlds removed. Freed of all thought I glide deeper – deeper into her soul Senses awed Peace absolute On the bottom now Sister tide rocks me like a newborn child Gently to and fro Like the sands on the ocean bed – my bed Four bells – come up FOUR BELLS – SHUT UP. Ascent now, Time to leave – time to grieve. A fight to 80 feet Stop for a second and she pulls you back down Down to rest – down to sleep Arms to the side – look to the surface 60 feet now – gently rising – no effort required. The hull of the boat, The eye of the moon, The world is waiting. Break the surface – thumb in the air Danger everywhere. “Diver on the surface indicating well”  Diver on the surface – back into hell.I am trying to express the personal relationship you can develop with the ocean/sea four bells is a miltary signal sent to the diver to come up immedately. Other expressions and actions are also military use. Written February 21st, 2002 © on Feb 21 2002 02:29 AM PST   18 • 0 • 13
