Oasis of Love

By Brazos

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Oasis of Love Ah, so here I am, Standing on the edge of the wasteland. So, nothing behind me, Only forward to go, o'er the desert sand. Left behind? [What was it]? The greed and avarice of mankind? The desert seems spare, But no worse than what I leave behind. So, not looking back, I plot a course toward the sun. Walking, not running, I will go on until I am done. Plod, trod, my pace is slow, Sky meets land, far, far, away. There's nothing to see, As far as I can say. Hark! What's that? A blip on the horizon I see. It looks green, verdant, Could be a tree, with water maybe? Yes, I draw closer, More green is apparent. Palm trees galore, With water inherent. Into the oasis I enter, And find that I am not alone. There are people here, Like me, their sins to atone. Form a circle do they, Around the pond of water, ever blue. And sing happy songs, And hold hands, and kiss, and say, "I love you". At once do I know, I've entered a place very rare; My sins are omitted, If only I join in their care. Their stories are like mine, For they have left a life of avarice behind. We have all fled the blight, Of civilization unkempt and unkind. Racism, hate, bigotry, corruption, The litany goes on without interruption. Now I see that desire is a cancer, For only in love, will we find the true answer. Hold onto your friend’s hands, And, also, hold onto your own. Love yourself, and them too, Show yourself, and let your love be known. Copyright, 2001 Brazos MasonI wonder if love will ever really work, or, is already working now??
