The Froggy Queen

THE FROGGY QUEEN I believe it was the month of May When King Of Frogs was heard to say, “I’ve been so lonely all my life, The time has come to find a wife.” He called his footman to his side And bid him, “Go search far and wide, To find your King a froggy bride. Search every river, every pond Beneath each green and leafy frond Turn each stone and lift each log But find your King a special frog. A frog with skin of emerald green, Just perfect for a froggy queen.” The footman swore he’d do his best He said that he would have no rest Until he’d found the perfect wife To join the King in palace life. Throughout the day and into night The footman searched with all his might, At every pond the rumours grew A Royal Bride sought? Could it be true? The frogs poured in from miles around The footman looked, then turned them down Not one seemed right within his mind That special frog he’d yet to find. The footman hunted night and day He sent a thousand frogs away, Then feeling really quite downhearted Returned to where the search has started Back to the palace to tell the King He’d failed to find a bride for him. But as he passed the palace lake The footman did a double–take Sitting right there on a log The footman saw a pretty  frog A frog with skin of emerald green Just perfect for a froggy queen. The footman rushed to fetch the King “Oh majesty, great news I bring Open your window and you will see A frog as lovely as can be A frog with skin of emerald green Just perfect for a froggy queen” The King looked out, “By jove you're right She really is a lovely sight Such beauty cannot get away I’ll make her queen, right now, today! Fetch the parson, fetch the ring Tell the froggy choir to sing But most of all, please ask my bride To come and join me at my side” The footman called out to the frog Still sitting pretty on her log “How would you like to come inside The King Of Frogs requests a bride?” The frog looked up and gave a croak, She said “Is this some kind of joke? Bride to King Of Frogs, be blowed I’m not a froggy - I’m a toad!” Written December 30th, 2001 © on Dec 29 2001 06:19 PM PST   0 • 14
