The Little Green Monster

By Buzby

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I once knew a little green monster, who was living just west of Peru,a monster with six legs and four eyes, three of them brown and one blue. Each night that little green monster, would sing ‘neath the silvery moon, and each time he sang I would listen, and cry for he sang a sad tune.He sang of a girl he had loved, a monster with teeth of pure blue, but all of his friends had laughed, for while they had six legs, she’d two. They mocked him for loving that monster, pointed fingers and called him bad names, they said she couldn’t be a real monster, because her body just wasn’t the same. And so he had left the monster, with eyes of such brilliant red, ignored what his heart had told him, took heed of his friends instead. So now every day and each night, that monster he sings a sad song, for he knows now he truly loved her, and to leave her alone was so wrongAt night when you lie in your bed and the stars are shining above, you might hear the little green monster, as he sings of the girl he once loved. So remember this story if you meet a love who is different from you, don’t make the mistake of the monster, who sings sad songs just west of Peru.
