The Silent Class
By Buzby
THE SILENT CLASS There is a school near here where the children make no noise if you walked past the window you’d see silent girls and boys The lack of talk in classrooms Might make you stop and look To watch for just a moment Each head bent over a book And it may strike you odd To see such silence in a school You may wonder if the teacher Holds the class with iron rule But look a little closer Just take another peek, and see how these special children Must use their hands to speak So though the class is silent And not a sound is heard, there is lots that they are saying Just without the spoken word You may not hear their voices Nor yet see them laugh and play If you pass the classroom window And go quietly on your way So take yourself a moment Just stop to look and hear The lessons that are taught Without use of word or ear Written January 26th, 2002 © on Jan 25 2002 06:09 PM PST 0 • 12
