The Weeping Willow Tree
By Buzby
WEEPING WILLOW TREE I remember the happy days we would meet ‘neath the willow tree, it seemed nothing else mattered then the whole world was just you and me. We’d spend hours walking hand in hand, strolling through the park, we laughed and talked by daylight - and did our kissing in the dark. And when the time would come we had to set each other free, you would walk me back again to the weeping willow tree. My nights were spent in dreams, visions and pictures of you, I was wishing you were there to hold me all night through. Each morning I’d be up bright and early with the sun and I’d rush off to the willow tree, to wait for you to come. The promises whispered that summer, the secret plans we made, of always being together, of a love that would never fade. I thought nothing could come between us, nothing could ever go wrong, I thought the happiness I felt, like our love, would just go on. One misty morning I waited beneath our willow tree, I saw you across the road, saw you wave to me. In your haste to hold me, across the road you ran, while I was screaming at you to watch out for that van. There was nothing we could do, not the driver, and not me, I stood rooted to the spot ‘neath our weeping willow tree. The driver tried to swerve, I heard a squeal of brakes; now you saw the van, but now was just too late. The ambulances came, kind ladies brought cups of tea, but no one could coax me out from beneath our willow tree. The daylight came and went, and when the moon did rise, I was still beneath the willow tree tears shining in my eyes. I would no more hear your voice, no more feel your warm embrace, never look into your eyes, nor see your handsome face. All the plans we had, all the promises we made, would become, like you, a memory that time would surely fade. I wanted to always remember the happy days of you and me, so I had a special plaque made, and put on our Willow Tree. It reads, ‘Though you have gone my darling our love will never die, I know one day we’ll meet ‘neath a willow in the sky.’ Written January 30th, 2002 © on Jan 30 2002 03:48 AM PST 0 • 1
