I wear the mask quite wellI seem happy can you tell?my face lights up with a smileBut I am cringing all the while.II'mlaughing like a childNot too tamed, not too wildbut looking deep into my eyesYou'll see the tears that I cryI don myself a subtle guiseto the untrained eye I look wiseyet behind the quiet airI live a life of despairThe choice I opted forSent me to an unseen doorI'm trapped by my own demisetears too often brim my eyesYet no one should ever detectthe lack of love and it's effectI've resigned myself to this roadand for my heart I write this ode.
