A New Life

By colleen

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

When I picture my life in a monthIt's a new season,The heat of summerEnding in time for the colors to change.I'm in a new place,Far away from here.Living in my new giant white castle,With no rules to obey,No authority to answer to.My life that I know today Pales in comparison to my life in a month.I'll be on my own,Independent from all the chains that have tied me downFor all these years.I'll be free to be myself Without worrying about consequences. My future is bright,Nothing could be better,Anything I want is mine. But when I picture my life in a monthSomething is missing,It seems just a little incompleteCompared to the ordinary life I live now. That love I seem to live for,The smile I wait to see every morningIs missing from the daily plansThat one person who makes an ordinary life Seem worth it is gone,It seems like he got lost somewhere along the way. This life I'll be living in a month is nothing but fun,Partying like a movie star is my new goal,My new prospect for life. But I don't know how I'll make itWhen this is the life that we dreamed up together. We would swing on your old hammock,Passing those hot summer daysDreaming of the days when we could live this way.Well now this life is hereBut only one of us are allowed in this timeAnd they don't seem to want you.So, while I'm living it up as a movie starYou'll be sitting on your couch,Watching TV,Hearing about my latest ventureFeeling leftout once again. But this life isn't that great. The big parties are fun but it's boring and lonleyWhen there's no one to go home and gossip with.Empty kisses don't mean anything but everyone here Likes to pretend that they do.So maybe if I just play along Then this empty feeling will endAnd I'll be able to spend at least one day Without thinking of that one person That would make these parties a little bit more fun.If I play along Then maybe I won't feel so alone and helplessWithout your hand leading me arounfWithout your shoulder to cry on.Because I know that in my new lifeThat will begin next monthI can't take you with me,There's only room for one more In that big castle on the coast. So I'll leave by myself,I promise to try not to cry,But promises are made to be broken. It won't be long before you find someone whoCan laugh harder than meAnd finds humor in the smallest things,Someone else to make you smile at the end of a hard day. We'll live two seperate lives,Me with my big, fancy partiesAnd you with your 'ordinary' life.Maybe, well, hopefully,We'll meet again,We'll cross paths again And start over from where we were forced to leave off.So, for right now all we can do isEnjoy the rest of our time togetherBefore we are forced to say good-byeAnd I'll try to have as much fun as possible,Living it up in my new life,Depending on the memory of the love we shared togetherTo get me through these lonley timesWhen fake smiles are all that seem to greet me,I know I can think backAnd remember the way you're smile was once enoughTo make an 'ordinary' day worthwhile.
