You're driving too fast You're out of control You had too much to drink, Maybe we should stop and rest here Wait until tomorrow to contunie home. But you insist on contuining, You keep going With your eyes straight ahead, Focused on that one goal of home. A big dinner is supposed to be prepared, Your homecoming dinner, What a great night it will be With all of those that you love best will be surronding you. But for some reason you took the long the long way home, You couldn't wait to leave And get back to the palace of your youth But the longer you drive The more the road spreads out in front of you And you get farther away from that place You keep running from, That's got you acting so wierd. But you're by no way closer to home. I fall sleep next to you, Somewhere in between two different states, And I woke up hours later To a bright morning light And I see you crying in the seat next to me. You said you got lost hours ago, You got on the wrong road And you have no clue where you are, where we are. I hold you as you sob into my shoulder Trying to figure out your way home. This is a poem I wrote awhile ago, before I went back home from college when I was a freshmen:) Written November 8th, 2001 © on Nov 08 2001 12:58 PM PST 0 • 10
