Lost Dreams
By colleen
What happens to our lost childhood dreams? Do they get tossed away With the rest of our childish toys and ways? Or are they collecting dust somewhere, Locked tight in a must, old attic Only to be taken out In times of nostalgia To bring a tear to our eyes As we remember lost loves And things we forgot to say? Will we ever recapture That blind ambition that led us Through those 18 or 20 years, The ambition and hope that couldn't be stopped By anyone or anything? Will we ever reclaim that hope, To believe that such dreams were possible, That he and I would really get married, That I'd write the all- American novel one day? What happened to the wish The young girl used to make On her star every night? Has she given it up for a satisfactory life With a man who is anything but Her Prince Charming? Did her dreams fall When her star fell, Into the great, dark night Never to be seen again? So what has happened to our lost dreams, Did they get tossed somewhere at sea, Or are they still deep inside Each of us Waiting to be rediscovered again And to finally be realized.
