White Christmas
By colleen
The snow and ice falling so gracefully from the sky Are just another reminder Of all the time that's gone by Since I last saw you; Of all that's changed Since we last touched. It was so much warmer, Tank tops and sandals were the norm And the smell of suntan lotion was so sexy. No bundling up, dressing in layers. We ran free under the stars And kept each other warm all night. We took the summer by storm, You and I, And it was ours. We controlled our fun, our own excitement. We kept the money rolling As we stood by our lemonade stand Planning the day we'd be married. Not a day would go by without a kiss from my love, My wonderful summer love. But then the seasons changed, School's back in session; Time to put away the lemonade And innocent fantasies of marriage. Reports of an early blizzard came And I was out the door. It's the first White Christmas in years, they say. The fireplace is going With the embers burning Spreading its warmth throughout the room. And I watch the snowflakes dance around the air, Millions of tiny, different snowflakes Just dance and dance around Until they fall safely to the ground. And I wonder where you are, If you're safe and warm someplace Or are you too lost somewhere, Staring blindly ahead at the snowflakes Thinking of your lost summer love.
