Advice From Above

A girl is born, In the autumn air, The leaves are turning, They match her beautiful brown hair. Time goes by, She learns how to walk. It’s not long at all, before she learns how to talk. It’s her first birthday, Her family gathers in the park. When, out of nowhere, A homeless man comes out of the dark. He went up to the child, Handed her a yellow rose. Who he was, To this day, no one knows. The homeless man said to the child, “ I know that you are young, But please remember me, Remember the words that I have sung. Live your life, Fallow your heart throughout. First, please yourself, That’s what life is all about. Care for others, As they do for you. For true friends, For each other, anything they will do.” The girl took in the word, And used them in life. She didn’t know where the idea came from, She couldn’t remember out of pure strife. Every year after, On her birthday, There on her front steps, A yellow rose would lay. Where It came from, No one knew, Apparently, out of the sky, Out of the sky it flew. Then she thought of the words, Spoke to her so long ago, Where they came from, She did not know. She remembered a man, The man said to her, “ I know that you are young, But please remember me, Remember the words that I have sung. Live your life, Fallow your heart throughout. First, please yourself, That’s what life is all about. Care for others, As they do for you. For true friends, For each other, anything they will do.” On her eighteenth birthday, There was no yellow rose in sight. Just an envelope, Mysterious, plain, and white. As she opened it, A million thoughts ran through her mind. Was it good, was it bad? Would it be mean or kind? The letter was written beautifully, Every piece was concise. Not a mistake on the paper. Every point was precise. The letter said, “ long ago I told you, I know that you are young, But please remember me, Remember the words that I have sung. Live your life, Fallow your heart throughout. First, please yourself, That’s what life is all about. Care for others, As they do for you. For true friends, For each other, anything they will do. You took my advise, Whether you knew it or not. You’ve grown into a great person, Against sin you fought. Here you are, A beautiful young maid, With a heart of gold, And a million friends made. You are as perfect a s a human can get, You take care of yourself, Yet, you never put others needs, Away, high, on some shelf. You truly are the greatest friend, I have ever met. Have great success in you life. Guaranteed, that’s what you get. The biggest question of all, Which I haven’t answered yet, Is who I am? That answer you will get. I am your guardian angel, Sent from above. I am here to protect you, And give you my love. I am not one person, Yet, many I am a part of. I am the people who surround you, Those whom it is you, they love.” She finished the letter. She cried and cried, But she followed his advise, Until the day she died. She lived a long happy life, Did everything she wanted to. She made an impact on so many lives, Just like you. Written January 27th, 2002 © on Jan 26 2002 05:35 PM PST    18 • 0 • 8
