The Beginning of Prom Night

By Cope

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

The sun begins to fall over the majestic purple mountains, Spreading the day’s last fiery warmth upon the sky. Night has begun to fall as I perch myself upon her stoop. The pressure is tough, as the father will bet there again, Possibly just the tightness of my tuxedo collar causing my discomfort. I push the button of pending doom only to bring the painful ring of dread. Upon entering, surprisingly the mood was light, pleasant, and almost welcoming, Like an old family member, dropping bye just to say, “hello”. Suddenly, after endless minutes of enduring excitement, I saw her, Shoes clear, like a princess meant to walk on glass. Her body of perfect stature, stance pure, tall, dignified and proud, Yet, still she walks down the stairs with complete grace and beauty. She smiles in complete happiness, happiness in love, happiness in life. Her eyes seem to glimmer, almost as the twinkle of the stars, Filled with confidence and compassion. But deep inside her dark beautiful eyes only one thing can be seen, Pure love.  Love to last an eternity. She approaches me timidly, as we are overlooked by her parents, When she walks by and whispers I love you, My heart seemed to stop along with the world itself. Watching her talk and explain the itinerary of the night, I realize that my soul mate has arrived, a gift from above. Her parents and us exchange good graces and good-byes, Our exit is made as two young ducklings leaving the nest for the first time. I begin my night of happiness, romance, and pleasure, And think to myself that this is the beginning of love lasting forever. I kiss her softly as we drive away to begin our life of love.
