9 Minutes (Ode to Herculaneum)

“9 Minutes” (Ode to Herculaneum) Fire, brimstone, and sulfur From my window Gray shroud rises From the throat of Pompeii And Its eyes Meet mine as Its stretched arms Reach to wrap me You have nine minutes friendHerculaneum was the sister city to Pompeii. When Vesuvius erupted, the falling ash and voluminous ash clouds slowly buried Pompeii. Herculaneum had the same fate and its citizens watched in horror as the pyroclastic ash clouds headed quickly towards them to seal it. It took approximately nine minutes for the ash clouds to move from Pompeii to Herculaneum. The original font I used makes the "hourglass" shape look better than it does here.
