Streamers

FYI: Streamers are positively charged electrical streams that stand straight up during a storm. They are everywhere, but are invisible to the naked eye. They are at the very top of every object - trees, people, cars, etc. They seek to connect with a negatively charged stepledder to create a lightning bolt. A stepledder is a negative electrical discharge from a cloud. When the two connect, a bolt is created and all the negative charge from the clouds is drained to the earth. This process charges the atmosphere and creates more streamers to connect and create more lightning. This poem is about this lightning cycle. Streamers She was created for him And in the howling wind and rain She stands rigid and alert Diligently searching Urgently seeking He glances down from the heavens And sees her scanning the skies for him He considers his options and thinks This one will do nicely In a burst of dazzling light and speed He moves And tears the night with jagged edges The flash jolts her, shakes her Cringing, she raises her arms to meet him A destiny of conviction In the park, an ancient oak stands In a microsecond, she stretches And connects For an instant, they are one And she stands illuminating the darkness, Draining the heavens, as she draws The stepledder down For one last kiss The bolt goes through her Through the core of the tree Incinerating the branches Splitting in two what was once whole He is finished His weakened current ebbs Through the blackened roots of the tree Dissipating into the earth He returns to the heavens Charging the atmosphere as he leaves Giving rise to more who will serve his need A smile plays at the corners of his lips As he glances downwards at his handiwork And chooses his next streamer Their gentle, flickering light dots the landscape He reads their thoughts as the voice of one She was created for him And in the howling wind and rain She stands…..
