Dueling with Despair
By KastleK
I was locked in a timeless death battle with Despair We circled each other and squinted Like in old Clint Eastwood Westerns We faced off in a duel Death was the penalty We met in the middle of the dusty town square Face to face Our guns holstered but our hands at the ready to draw We faced, we turned, we walked our ten paces We whirled back and fired Smoke and dust swirled The outcome was unclear The bottle of pills lay at my side Fallen to the ground My hand dropped limp off the side of the sofa * * I woke up in a sterile room A ray of sun shimmering with dust motes caught my eye The kindly voice of Hope sat at my side Holding my hand The Angel of Mercy in a white uniform Whispering words of forgiveness, love and peace I lost the battle but won the war He looks through my window now and then I pass him by on the street I ignore him He retreats He glances back just to make sure I defy him to come and get me I scream at him, "You got my brother you motherf*#*r!!" But he won't get me Another picturesque dramatization....of dangerous behavior Written March 13th, 2002 © on Mar 13 2002 09:12 AM PST 0 • 1
