Canoe

By katraylor

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

the flood of ripples attaches, then trails away from my oar, firm against flowing resistance beneath me. in the canoe's motion i feel the world fly by, smoothly and peacefully. the water is green and glowing, shimmered liquid jade. damselfly- perfect jewelled sprite- hovers on air and is gone. we stop and feel the earth rotating slowly around the axis of this little boat, cool, muddy water sloshing across bare feet. when and how was the sky so blue? i think i'll paddle beyond the reach of time.Exercise in English class last year- "emotion remembered in tranquility," or something like that. i'm sure certain members of the community will now take it upon themselves to be offended on behalf of the canoe. Whatever. Written April 27th, 2001 © on Feb 03 2002 09:54 AM PST   0 • 10
