The Ghetto Business Let’s talk for a moment About a plague That is ravaging our communities Breaking up families Spreading crime And increasing poverty Yes it is the ghetto business And this is a phenomenon That we must deal with As a people If we are to progress But I don’t want to give you The impression That the ghetto business Is strictly a black thing Ghetto business can be white, yellow Red, black or some of all It can be male or female A relative Or someone you wish You had never met before And one thing for sure Ghetto business is too bad Too cold And too sick For you to allow it any sympathy The only common factor That these ghetto businesses have Is green The color of money And the bile In your stomach As you think about The hours that you wasted Working for one of these ghetto businesses It is easier to tell you What can and very often Does happen in these ghetto businesses As a way of defining them One of the ways to know If you are in a ghetto business If you have to beg for your paycheck You're in a ghetto business If you thought you were ired And thought you knew Your payrate but then you don't You're in a ghetto business If you have to threaten To sue To make them see the light You're in a ghetto business Ghetto business can be big business Hiding behind a small business Check out Who stands behind Those small factories Could be K Mart WalMart And other marts Big discounts Big profits And be onto you In their fact ories Because it May be the Twenty first century But it's like The Nineteenth century In some of these Ghetto businesses And don't count On inspectors Because your complaint May lead to INS or IRS And Being dropped off Somewhere in the Middle of nowhere Wondering how to Get back To your family All from thinking You have rights In the Ghetto business Watch out for those fumes But that little mask Won't save your lungs In the ghetto business Ghetto business May fire you Today tomorrow or the next For any reason At any time At any place The Christmas party The day of your bonus check The day after Your evaluation Ghetto business Ghetto business Could be for profit Non profit Christian Muslim Or atheist Every day Ghetto business Takes down Lives Smokes out careers Leaves babies Without parents And moves on They have no shame Ghetto business May take your dignity And if they get you once Shame on them But if they get you twice Shame on you Don't be ashamed To admit it And move on Because it isn't right Ghetto business Cause they will take your life Ghetto business Ghetto businessman You have no right To that money That you made from the sweat of my brow It's gonna be another day There has got to be a better way I'm gonna leave today Ghetto business I'm gonna make it right Listen to what I say Around the corner In the next room in the next hour Is another boss Ready to do it to you You've got to beware Of ghetto business Of ghetto business Fade outLife in the city Written April 6th, 2002 © on Apr 06 2002 08:49 AM PST   0 • 9
