Ashes
By Ld Marduk
Out of the ashes of a broken heart,The remnants of my soul…must start,To find anew…the will to heal,To once again…begin to feel—And yet, twas feelings that produced,The ashes of my heart then strewn,Cast away…upon the wind,As payment for my mortal sin—For twas but in my arrogance,My pride…and vanity,The love that I had cherished most,Was driven away…from me—For I believed…with such disdain,That thy love…wouldst e’er remain,Thus gave no thought,To thine own feelings,Nor that…twas I,That hurt thee—Yet in thy wake…thou left behind,Clues which thou thought I would find,Find them…yea…I did indeed,But twas, alas, too late for me,For finding them…I realized,That I had lost…my greatest prize,The love…of one kind heart—And so my heart…in anguished burned,Twas a harsh lesson…I had learned,And out of the ashes of my broken heart,My soul…it was…that had to start,To find anew…the will to heal,And once again…to love.
