A Picture Perfect, All-Round, Multi-tasking, etc...Girl
By Lime
I'm tired. Tired of living in this shit-hole for a town. Tired of my school where everyone wants to be a veterinarian or a teacher and where the superficiality of humanity is emphasized. Tired of my parents where even just a sidelong glance at me results in some unexhausted form of criticism. Good grades, a part-time job with a few raises, two younger unknowledgeable sisters, and a fairly large group of demanding, yet lovable friends. But I can deal, can't I? I'm 17...it's almost time for the "real" world say the motivational speakers that visit my school and only serve me by forcing my retrieval into a dark hole of depression. Does it get any more real? But surely, I COULD do more right? Why not tutor my sisters, clean up more often, and try and do extra credit? "Only 98%, what happened to the other 2%?" is every evening's kiss goodnight! "Do you think you could stay a few more hours...you should try it like this...not BAD...you could have..." are phrases that routinely greet me at my job. "Why are you so depressed and sarcastic all the time?" criticize my friends in addition to my mother's contributions "Is that what you're wearing...he's a nice boy...what happened to your hair...is that a third eye, dear...CLEAN UP...you do nothing!...". Welcome to my "model-student, good worker, big sis, great friend" world. Let me know if you see ME in it. Written December 15th, 2001 © on Dec 15 2001 08:15 AM PST 0 • 1
