'Tea for Two'
By MalEntente
If I ever had to be something that I was not, I think I'd choose to be, a present you once got. I'd be a special Christmas gift, for you when you were little, Wrapped up tight with hearts and kisses, and a bow across my middle. You'd know as soon as you saw me, that I was just for you. That once-in-a-lifetime friend to keep, to drive away the blue. After tearing all my wrapping off, you'd have to blink and stare, 'Cause, after all, it's not everday, that you get a Teddy Bear. I'd spend every moment at your side, 'specially when you slept. I'd be there to help you play, and stay even when you wept. 'Cause it's an important job, you know, bein' a Teddy Bear. You have to listen, and love a lot, and always, always care. But no matter how much fun we'd have, there's an even better part. You see, I'd be your friend for life, right from the very start, 'Cause even though, others would go, I'd stay with you all those years. Always beside you, whenever needed, 'specially to share those tears. Our happy moments, we'd share together, always havin' fun. I'd swing with you, have tea for two, and when the day was done, We'd snuggle tight, all through the night, just like we do right now . . . . . . But wait! I guess I am . . . your Teddy Bear anyhow! As you've probably guessed by now, I love Teddy Bears. I've never been quite sure why, but I do. In some ways I suppose that I hope someday to be someone's special Teddy Bear - kinda like in this poem. Again, the eternal optimistic romantic! This is one of my most favorite poems in this book. I hope it makes you smile! Although many of my poetry here deals with live behind bars, Love never stops, never fails, and never gives up hope! Enjoy!
