My Shadow
I have grown up as a country boy, right on the equatorwith twelve equal hours of day and night. With sunshineevery day of the year. Nothing below 55 or above 80I remember when I was a kid; my grandma did not have a watch and so did many in the neighbourhoodTheir watch was their own shadows She looked at the position of her shadow and she knew exactly what time of day it was When it disappeared she knew night had come-a night that plunged them into the unknownThe helplessness of the dark night crippled them Not knowing if ever they will see their shadows againAnd guess what if they never saw their shadows again!
