Sacred Forest (Challenge Poem)
After the last rain of the season is the best time to go for a walk through an even more calming wood, Lively yet still, Thriving yet relaxing, And all the while stealing the life away from me and using it as its own. As I walk along the same old path, Leaves crunching beneath heavily sheltered feet, The smell of the many seasons in the air, I realize that I no longer need to take this same old path, And so I don't... I make my own. For hours it seems I walk in any direction I please, As free as the white doves that perch up in the trees where beauty and freedom is only matched by the calmness in the autumn's breath. All the while the sun slowly descends and will soon awaken another forest on the other edge of the treachorous world, But none so beautiful as mine... None so peaceful, nor divine... Here I can be alone. I still continue walking, Even after the sun has dissapeared and been replaced by millions of glittering stars, And an even more mythical moon. The ground crunches harder and all around me there is life, But that's what makes it even more soothing. The song of the wolf and the dancing of the deers is enough to make me cry, But I know that if I did my tear would only be frozen over, And shatter when it strikes the ground, So I don't... I'd rather stay longer. Now that the moon is high above my head, illuminating the earth below, I head home, To where a warm fire and hot chocoloate remind me of the sacredness of the forest, And I can now rest easy knowning that tomorrow I can return... And every day after. This is another one for one of Webdreamer's challenges Written January 4th, 2002 © on Jan 04 2002 01:27 PM PST 0 • 10
