Summer Song
Deep in a forest where protection is it's realm, A small little sparrow sits alone upon a branch, And from her heart is the song of a winter, But the winter is far from here. She flies night and day in search of a full moon, But all she finds is clouds and some stars, She never knew what it was like to fly so high, And silence is all she can hear. She continues to push on hoping she will find greatness, And one day she comes up to a golden brown meadow, Where, from the wheat, rises a sparkling rainbow, And she flies faster and faster until she can't bear. She reaches the rainbow to find is gone, And she falls to the ground sobbing the saddest winter song, But then she realizes that if this rainbow is here, Then over the horizon there are more for her to near. She jumps with joy and she flies back to home, She sits on the branch, Now steady and hearthy. She figures that rainbows can appear just about anywhere, So she decides to wait, And sing that muted summer song, But it is not summer either... It is spring.I decided to stop being so literal all the time so I wrote a poem with absolutely no literal meaning... Written January 26th, 2002 © on Jan 25 2002 11:59 PM PST 0 • 12
