The Path That Leads to the Horizon
The night is darker than it was yesterday, The moon is new and that's why it never shines. The Earth I live in crumbles beneath me, But I cannot blame it. I travel down this same weary road day after day, Hoping maybe... just maybe I will find the path away some day. Now that the night has set and the sun dissapears behind a horizon I await to meet, I lay in the field with the glossy, wet grass and I pray, But only to the wind because the God I beleived in when I was young no longer exists, Now he is only a hope that many people rely on for their perpetual comfort, And I choose to follow my own path, Not his. Now it's morning, and I have not slept at all, Because If I do I am afraid I will be swept away with my dreams, And loose my sight, And forget my path. I will walk all day, And all night just to reach the path that takes me to the horizon, That takes me to my dreams so I can soar above the very clouds that rain upon me, So I can kiss the very moon that has forgotten me, And then I realize. I am on that path right now, And to somebody far out in the distance I am standing on the horizon, And I am the brightest star in the night sky. Until now I was clouded with ambition and I forgot to look behind, Maybe just one more time, And realize... The horizon is everchangable, It's the dream that is forever, And all I have to do now is look ahead and continue on this path, For this is the path that leads to the horizon, But then again... They all do. This one just takes a little bit longer, And a little bit more thought, But when I'm done, I will be thankful, For I will have seen things and know things you only wish you could understand. I took the only path others wouldn't, And now I am the horizon. Written December 22nd, 2001 © on Dec 22 2001 03:43 AM PST 18 • 0 • 12
