Now I Can Laugh
By Rambler
Once they had me flummoxed Once they had me duped Back in those early years Still coalescing Leaves yet to unfold My naiveté a neon sign Lighting my path to slaughter And like missing that last step When reality mugs assumption I stumbled into their world unawares Full of good and simple thoughts Easy going, assuming the best To be leveled by their fierceness And trampled by merciless feet Their ears barricaded against appeal Their decibels disproportionate To their real importance Subdued by their power Cowed by their dominance Wondering why my portion was among the weak But with time’s layered unveiling Things fall along lines unimagined Through weakness developed strength Unperceived through their myopic lens Until it was too late Bundled with true strength was vision Revealing the true weakness They had made appear strong And I pitied them Some came to multiply subjugation And were dispatched easily With economy of thought and act Looking back on those years Like peering through the wide end of the telescope Is to peer upon a distortion Thankfully retaining strength without warp No dross of bitterness left in the wake For I know who is strong Now I can laugh And my laugh is stronger Than all their deliberationsHate is Imminent/Category is abuse Written February 28th, 2002 © on Feb 28 2002 06:51 AM PST, Bruce Newman 0 • 13
