6 p.m. She gets the call "Party at my house It'll be a ball" A smile crosses her face As she decides what to wear And says into the phone "I'll surely be there" 7 p.m. She puts on a spray of perfume A shade of red lipstick And closes the door to her room Her parents say "Be home by midnight" As she goes out to her car She replies with a sarcastic "Yea, right" 8 p.m. She pulls in the driveway Walks into the party And looks around in dismay She's never been To a real party before One with tons of kids and drugs And booze galore 9 p.m. She is spotted by a guy Who sees a great target And decides to say hi He smiles at her And hands her a drink He tells her how good it is As he gives her a wink 10 p.m. She's had a few beers And is instantly seen as cool In the eyes of her peers She is getting so much attention And loving every minute While her "guy" gets her another drink So she'll finally submit 11 p.m. She's wasted by this time She doesn't have enough sense To tell them it's a crime She gets taken advantage of But she can't even tell Because she's too caught up In her own private hell 12 p.m. As the rest of the guests leave The host frowns and says "She's only sixteen" She pushes herself up And stumbles out to her car She thinks she'll make it home After all, it's not that far 1 a.m. She's almost made it When she sees the time And decides that she needs to split So she steps on the gas And begins to bolt As she hears the screeching metal And feels a sudden jolt 2 a.m. She opens her eyes Lying in a ditch Her head against her thighs Soon she hears a groan And looks to her right And sees a very bloody Horrifying sight She sees a girl her age And begins to cry This girl is in her math class And now she's going to die For many years She'll sit in jail And think of the girl in the ditch So grotesque and pale And she'll always imagine If she had been good and behaved How this world would be different Two lives would be saved Written March 16th, 2001 © on Jan 05 2002 04:31 PM PST 0 • 1
