Crimson Night
We sit quietly, In a field of beauty, A world of dreams, “I’m here” I say, as I drift off to sleep, “I know” She whispers “I am too” She rests her sweet head against my shoulder, And slowly drifts off The dreamer awakens, What does she see, Darkness, Dragons, Crimson red She tries to shake me awake, But I am off sleeping, Dreaming perhaps, “Pain, suffering, cycles, depression” she whispers in fear, she shakes me once more but I am far gone, merely sleeping, The girl gets up and starts to walk, Towards a door, A switch, The off button, for this amazing reality, Walking slowly, Faster, Faster, Running, Screaming “Let me free!” “Get me out!” She does not see the rainbows behind the gray clouds, The colors behind the darkness, So close, I awaken as she screams “Come back!” I scream, Running towards her as she continues towards the door, The switch, I grab her hand and hold tight To the dreams, To the hopes, To the somedays, She tightens her grip on my hand, Like she’ll never let go, But keeps reaching, Reaching, I close my eyes as I hear her scream in agony, Tearing apart, Everything tearing apart, She screams, Reaches farther, Never letting go of my hand, Sometimes I see her face as she looks back at me, Sadness is there, Yearning, Other times, When I open my eyes, All I see is her cold stare, Let go.... “Never” I scream “Not the dreams!” “They are nothing without you!” “They will just melt away!” She screams louder Louder Each time in greater pain then the last, And finally, I rip in two, I let go I fall to the ground and weep, Tears of beautiful radiance, Dripping to the floor, Reflecting the rainbows as they melt away “I’m gone” She says “I know” I whisper I Am Too...??/??/01, This is the ode to a girl who once was and never will be again.... captures all the pain and loss and is one of my favorites out of all my work. The pinnicle of my 2001 writing and the last poem to truly capture her,and the last I will ever write that is directly about her.
