'Robert's Request'(In Memory of my Dad)
By soosoncrack
It's been 25 years a quarter century since the day That's a long time Dad since you've been away After all this time and due to my neglect These overdue lines are written from my Heart and with respect You were'nt around a lot but you were'nt a "dead-beat Dad" I'll put you up against any Father that anyone ever had Circumstances dictated that we'd be apart But seperation holds no candle to Love that's from the Heart Mom and you divorced when I was just over one year But bad words about each other I did'nt ever hear Your explanations of why a Marriage did'nt last forever The visible Love between you but just could not live together I was constantly in awe of your humor and your wit Such an easy guy to Love but very difficult to forget One thing stays with me of all the things you'd say And it pops into my head almost every single day You asked of me one thing out of all the talks we had You'd say "do one thing for me Ed" "Just don't wind up like your dad" I'm very sorry Dad but I did'nt come through As every day that passes I get a little more like you It's not because I did'nt listen to your single request There's just too much of you in me to ever pass that test IN MEMORIUM OF ROBERT A.
