On Time

On Time Have you ever sat and thought of time I have - But not as much as Einstein He thought and thought and said it's relative I think it's related to how long we live. We've all as children on a journey in the car Had reason to enquire - How long or how far? And when told there were only ten minutes to go Thought it an eternity and knew it would go slow. When in our teens and going to high school We'd think of term's end and times at the pool. There were weeks to go - So long to wait And so many other things still on our plate. After we're married and the babes come along We pray for months they'll be healthy and strong. Now it doesn't seem very long I have to say There's one running, one walking and one on the way. It doesn't seem long - A decade or so And the one that was running is about to go Away from the nest - Away to stay But he was only born yesterday. Now the years go by - Hot and fast And I often sit and think of the past. It's not until we reach this age That life tells us how to turn the page. When the pages are turned and we take a look And flip back through this lifelong book We think of that car three quarters of a century ago And how wrong we were thinking it would go slow.
