The Final Decision....

By Trish MacQueen

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

As the sun sets behind a snowy mountain top, I stand on the cabin's front porch and watch. Whether I'm ready, or whether I'm not… The time has come and it's too late to stop. My breathing changes with a quick little hop, And I know in the cabin is my perfect match. As the sun sets behind a snowy mountain top, I stand on the cabin's front porch and watch. As I watch, I recall special times from the past, And how he has always begged me to play. But tonight, I'm to make a decision, at last, While I feel he's pushing…pushing too fast. I look within me, but the decision is so vast. I want to run, but my heart keeps saying stay. As I watch, I recall special times from the past, And how he has always begged me to play. With my heart throbbing, I ache to my core, Knowing, this decision is one I hate keeping. He looks up and thumps a spot on the floor, Beside where he lays, awaiting some more. Tomorrow a needle will settle the score, And my dog will be permanently sleeping. With my heart throbbing, I ache to my core, Knowing, this decision is one I hate keeping.
