A Surprise On A Large 'Scale'
By Twilah
Thinking back on a time long ago When life was much simpler and gay, My mind recollects of a past event Of which I’m relating to you today. After a few hours of serious fishing, They suddenly headed for shore; As soon as the boat was anchored Out stepped, no..ran! my children four. In excitement they all ran to me With their “catch” in a burlap sack; I peeked inside, saw a squirming eel And quickly took a dozen steps back. Now, I’m not squeamish, but eels don’t Exactly appeal to me, never did; The look on my face must have told it all Because back in the sack the thing slid. Now, my neighbors nearby had often said How tasty the eel can be. So I had a thought; What a nice little gift for their supper tonight, The kids all quickly agreed…”Why not?” Thru the path they all scurried...to show the Old couple who cared for everything they'd do; Giggling and excited as they saw her approach, They held up the sack and said..”For you!” Without a word, one of the little ones Took the sack.. tipped it upside down, Out came the eel and the fun began, for That eel was determined not to be found. Needless to say, the eel lost his freedom And the old couple and we would never forget; The time that the squeals of fright and delight Echoed round that lake..I can hear it yet!
