Lost Innocence

By Twilah

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

The little face..the look of lost innocence, Her large brown eyes now having been dimmed; Reflects the result of ultimate betrayal, The shattering of trust that we all placed in him. So many lives are left in many pieces now, Some beyond repair, with all hope gone; To think that this little child had to pay that price Is a tragic mystery to me...and much more beyond. The years of abuse has left its evil mark, She wonders what she has done wrong; “Please, Mommy, why are you always crying? Why is your heart now so devoid of song?” Her questions join the ranks of the other Victims that will always share in her shame, The children of abuse, their lives forever shattered, In some cases..not knowing who to blame. Our hearts feel the burden this child is carrying, Too young to understand the cruelties of man.. Our prayer? That she will once again learn to trust, That the sparkle in her eyes will eventually return. Dedicated to every child of abuse.
