Different Colors

The clock on the wall is silenced. I no longer can listen to the formidable metronome Taunt me with it’s glaring sound of reprisal For allowing you to walk out the door,   knowing I had the words that could stop you  but not letting go of pride long enough   to show you I cared. I watch the onset of dawn. Its arrival plays prelude to another day   Of trying to endure simple daily musings While my entire being cries to know   If you are scared   If you are alone   If you shiver with cold   If you are hungry   If you   Need me. I feel you pulling my heartstrings   Through our invisible umbilical cord Which has become so taut   That it dares to explode  I feel the stretch marks forge your trail Away from my maternal monarchy Into the arms of unknown rebellion Where your territory is far from my realm. I feel your desperation to know life as you discard the name I gave you And take on an identity of colors in a world of signing and drive bys You knocked on the door At the threshold of your hearts family But I was deaf to your plea As my own principals drown out your voice. I didn't hear your footsteps When they turned   and walked away. Now, I am the imprisoned casualty Locked in my room of hindsight I look through the bars of my responsibility To where your feet laid Your last impression on this ground I watch the evening cover the earth And get on my knees and pray That you are safe and that you will hear my cry To please Please….
