The Mountain
By 78harley
A dim flame still lingersamongst the cinders of my old self.I watch from a distanceas it dances back and forthtrying to cling to a cold coal.Searching for a breath of airto blow life back into it,It pops its rebellionthen sizzle and fades awayAnnouncing it’s departurewith a tiny burst of smokeand a request for silenceI wander over to study the ashesAnd stir the remnants of my beingto no avail of response. It settles down into the earthsoftly subduedas an air of humbled dignityblows forth in gentle gasps.I step backwhile the old ruins are dispersed. No apprehension is neededas I see His mighty handbuild a high mountainfrom where my remains once laid.No fear is in my heartas I watch the Cross being raisedand become witness to my Lordgiving His life for my ashes already spent. All that fills my new beingis an overpowering aweAnd a peace that my old eyeshad never before beheld. There… sparks a new flameThere… in the deepest part of my soulTo praise His name, love as He has loved, give as He has givenFully, and completely.I will climb the mountain He built for meThough the path may swerveand my legs may tire.It is the way to HeavenHe laid for my feet to follow. And each step I takefills my heart, mind and soulWith newness of hope, love and joyFor He shows me dailyThat He will never leave my sideMaking sure I reach His almighty gate.
