The Fairy Ball
By Andrew Hide
Down in the ancient forest, there stands a mighty tree, and if you come you'll won't believe some of the things you'll see. For if you look into the hollow you'll see a tiny stair, which leads down to a village, and the fairies who live there. In the grandest of halls, they dance and dance all night, to pixies playing music, and twinkling fairy light. With mushroom steaks served on slate plates, and nectar in acorn cups, Queen Issy's drank too much, and now suffers with hic-ups. The grand old elf is dancing, with great big pointed toes, and every time he stamps his foot, they tickle under his nose. The fairy princess is dancing, with the handsomest fairy men, she dances all around the room, then waltzes round again. The music's getting louder, and shaking boughs on trees, and joining in the chorus, are the singing birds and bees. This is a happy place, no tears, but only laughter, and if you ever visit, you'll be happy ever after.A light hearted bit of fun. For the kid in us all.
