Confection Confession
By cdcooper
Confection ConfessionChristopher CooperWith mixed emotions, happy and sadWatching the October sun down It's last evening mask.My righteousness was suddenly conflicted As I sadly sat convicted.Sitting alone gazing on cathode ray tubeWith a cornucopia lying haphazardly in my lap.Just waiting for the young to descend in mass.Yes pompously I sat proud of the factFor a week I resisted the devouring attack.I thought to myself, 'One won't matter.'That simple taste combined with the euphoria of a glutton's sin Led to a sharkish feeding frenzy, my friends. After the last wrapper touches the floorReality sets in with a rap on the door. The first group is always so young and shyBarely mobile and dressed so pleasing With mom or dad egging them on. And who will end this newfound moment of trust?Me, answering the door, with lips bearing a chocolate crust. Not knowing what to do I lean my back to the door.Slowly dejected I slid down to its threshold'sMy eyes catch the shining glimmer of a princess's crownThere with her head poking through the pet entrance is Katie McDandySaying, 'Mister Cooooper, aren't you going to give us some candy?'
