Wireless Gremlins

Wireless GremlinsBy Christopher CooperI have never walked cloud-headed Down a crowded hall Chatting merrily into my hand.  Nor do I have any reason to say, excuse me To a wall that strikes me without warning.  And no one has ever looked at me oddly While I was asking for direction from a plastic tube That protrudes from my ear.My belt has never vibrated Like the horny swamp toad in spring.  Never has my pocket made Annoying electronic bird calls Waking up innocent children on the bus While getting the slow death stare From the man reading a Clancy look-a-like novel. I don't worry If these are Peak or Off Peak minutes When I call my neighbor about their cat That has found its way onto my roof Because my dog was hungry.  I don't stay up late thinking about calling plans That charged for snail like roaming. I like to get away from all these wireless gremlins.  That likes to interrupt the sweet tension Of a nail biting suspenseMovie, telling you, Auntie Mae wants another pair of socks from the Wal-Mart.  Yes they are always scheming, Waiting for the right moment To chisel my serenity.
