My Heart's Home
By Dragonpoet
Butterflies fluttered and quivered inside of me, Their wings beating and thumping, Thrashing upon my stomach wall, Ringing the bell, sounding the alarm, pounding home the truth, A truth I didn't want to hear or know, But no doubts did I utter or have, For I had not a chance to escape With a thud and a bump I fell. A new discovered flower, a bud beginning to bloom, Fresh, untarnished, unfrayed, untouched, A spark unseen, unheard, unfelt before, Scaring me shitless, driving me to shiver in the warm sun, Hearing the beating of my heart, The greeting I longed to utter, But in silence I fled to scared to speak. A fawn, freshly born begins to stand, Standing upon wobbly legs, Legs quaking and quivering like mine, No prayers did I whisper for I had not a chance, Not a chance against the torrid waves crashing upon me, For in an instant my heart was lost, And quickly like an arrow soaring through the skies, My soul did fumble, tumble, and stumble into your arms. A fiend marched beside me, dark and forbidding, Tugging and yanking the strings of my heart, A fiery demon, a green-eyed monster, hideous in its glory, Unsightly thoughts freely roamed within my skull, Knocking down the doors, I so painfully built, One by one they fell open to your spell, Leaving me trembling, withering and lost. The sun rises, smiling and beaming, Its light spreading across the horizon, With its dancing rays of yellow, red, and gold, Warming the land, chasing away the cold, And stilling my beating, fluttering heart, A twinkle, a glimmer, a sparkle shining from your eyes, A simple spark igniting a flame, and fueling my spirit, Setting my heart upon the flaps of a sail, I sailed into your arms. Twisting, knotting, wringing my hands together, Wanting to escape, to be free from this overpoawering pull, But glancing to the left and then to the right, As the night approached and the stars winked, And the moon glimmered, spreading its flouscent glow downward, I see no escape, no place to go, no prayers for me As your arms wrapped around me, holding me tight, With barely a whisper you utter into my ears, "I love you!" My soul melts becoming muck in your hands, Or a ball of clay to shape and mold, With a sigh on my quivering lips I accept the gift you bestow upon me And with a smile I gladly melt in your embrace, Knowing I have found my home, The home of my heart and soul, Whispering "I love you, too!"
