Waning Light
By Dragonpoet
Under the cover of darkness, twinkling above me, Millions, billions, and trillions of flicking lights, Prancing and dancing in their freedom, Undiscovered, untraced, and unspoiled, Unnamed beacons of mystery and might. Twined with the moon, ushering in the night, Helter-skelter in the evening sky, Holy beacons, sparkling gems, precious stones, Diamonds in the sky, jewels never held, Untouched, untarnished by man's sinful touch. In a time forgotten, the time of our forefathers When they sailed the choppy seas in wooden ships, Discovering new sights and heights, The lights of heaven foretold their paths, Leading them far and wide Like beacons foretelling a tale. Upon the waning years, their mysteries unfold, Vanishing magic, lost to science, Dissected, explained, discovered, named and traced, No longer sparkling gems, no holy beacons, No precious stones or diamonds in the sky. In the far reaches of the galaxy, light years away, In a system yet to be discovered, a simple star withers, Its warmth waning, its light distinguished, its mysteries failing, Becoming a glimmer, a flicker of what has been or was, A forgotten beacon, a lost twinkle, a vanished hope, a dying flame, A dream never filled, a tale never told, never to unfold. Within this reality, this mystery of life, In a world with millions, billions, and trillions of souls, I am but a tiny speck, a spot, a number, a name, Undiscovered, uncounted, unheard, unknown, and forgotten, For in the far future, I'll be but a waning light, A falling star, an extinguished flame, a withering thought, With no warmth to hold, no hope to unfold, No dreams to share, only a lost glimmer in throngs of life.
